Icebreaker — January 31 – February 1, 2015

2015 will mark the 6th running of what has become one of the Southern Region’s most popular events.  Previously a by-invitation-only tournament that was restricted to clubs from the Southern Region, the format has been expanded to include all regions.

Registration — will open on AES on October 15, 2014

Cost — $395/team

Location — Suwanee Sports Academy (“SSA”), Southern Volleyball Center and High Schools located in Atlanta’s north-central suburbs (if needed).

Schedule/Waves — Will be posted on the Monday prior to the tournament.

Coaches Meeting – There will be no coaches meeting at this tournament.  Rather, we will give coaches one coaches packet per team upon check-in.  This packet will contain a detailed description of each division’s format, along with information that will be of use for all tournament participants and spectators.

Winners Invited to Beast — Winners of the Power Division of Icebreaker will automatically secure a Champion’s Exemption to the prestigious Beast of the Southeast Tournament of Champions in 2016.  The only other way to secure an automatic invitation to Beast is to qualify for USAV Nationals.

Spectators will be charged $5/dayfor admittance to the tournament.  Players, coaches and college coaches will be admitted without cost.

Hotel Accommodations
We are in the process of negotiating favorable rates with nearby hotels and will post that information as it becomes available.

While we have no stay-to-play policy at this tournament, all teams who need accommodations are strongly encouraged to book hotel reservations through our housing bureau.  Most hotels will offer a breakfast, kid friendly services, budget-conscious rates, and amenities to enhance your stay. Each hotel is strategically located just minutes from the tournament venues.

Food Tables

Are allowed at all venues.  The tables themselves (or half-tables at SVC owing to space constraints) will be provided at all locations.  One per team, please.

If you do not find the information you need on this page please feel free to contact Kurt Matthews at and we can help point you in the right direction.

Can power/open teams from outside the Southern Region attend?

    • michael says:

Yes; unlike previous years, icebreaker is open to power and club teams from inside and outside the region. our hope/expectation is that the tournament will be more competitive as a result.

Do you have age/wave information yet? February 1 is an SSAT testing date and some of our 14s and 15s want to know if they will be able to take it. Thanks!
