Icebreaker — February 1 – 2, 2014

ice breaker logo2014 will mark the 5th running of what has become one of the Southern Region’s most popular events.  Previously a by-invitation-only tournament that was restricted to clubs from the Southern Region, the format has been expanded to include all regions.  Registration is now closed.

Pool/Wave/Venue Assignments — We’ve been working on the schedule feverishly, reacting to last-minute requests to change divisions (no more, please) with the goal of producing the competitive, well-organized event that Icebreaker participants have come to expect.  The schedule is now posted on AES.  Venue and wave assignments are summarized below for your convenience.  A link to each venue is provided that will give you the venue’s address and directions thereto.

There will be no coaches meeting.  Therefore it is imperative that coaches/team representatives both download read the icebreaker coaches packet 2014 and check AES for match times and locations, as the normal 3:00 p.m. wave start time has been changed in many instances.

New in 2014 — Winners of the Power Division of Icebreaker will automatically secure a Champion’s Exemption to the prestigious Beast of the Southeast Tournament of Champions in 2015.  The only other way to secure an automatic invitation to Beast is to qualify for USAV Nationals.  Yet another reason to attend Icebreaker.

There is a charge for admission of $5/day at all venues.

As with all of our tournaments, college coaches will be admitted free; simply give your business card to the ticket sales person and they will give you your wristband.

Hotel Accommodations
This year we are offering another upgrade to ensure that your participation in the event goes smoothly.  We’re partnering with GroupHousing as the official Hospitality Service for the Tournament.

While we have no stay-to-play policy at this tournament, all teams who need accommodations are strongly encouraged to book hotel reservations through GroupHousing.  And there’s no reason not to use the service, as GroupHousing guarantees the lowest rate available for all teams.  GroupHousing will make this process efficient and friendly for you, while providing exceptional hotel accommodations for all teams. Most hotels will offer a breakfast, kid friendly services, budget-conscious rates, and amenities to enhance your stay. Each hotel is strategically located just minutes from the tournament venues.

Food Tables — are allowed at all venues.  Tables (or half-tables at SVC and PCVC, owing to space constraints) will be furnished at all locations.

Can power/open teams from outside the Southern Region attend?

    • michael says:

Yes; unlike previous years, icebreaker is open to power and club teams from inside and outside the region. our hope/expectation is that the tournament will be more competitive as a result.

Do you have age/wave information yet? February 1 is an SSAT testing date and some of our 14s and 15s want to know if they will be able to take it. Thanks!
