As we enter the tournament’s 6th year, it is clear that the 2014 rendition of Beast will be more competitive still. A USAV Ranking tournament, invitations are automatically earned by a team’s qualifying for the USAV National Championship Tournament the previous year. For example, A5′s 13-1 team qualified for Nationals in 2013, so A5′s 14-1 team was invited to Beast in 2014.
Consequently, Beast has been able to attract most of the best teams from throughout the Southeast–from Louisiana, Memphis, D.C., Raleigh, Miami and every significant market in between. We even get a few carpetbaggers–teams from top clubs from the North–even Canada–who want to experience open level competition outside their immediate geographic area.
2014 is the first year that we have had to turn away teams that qualified for USAV Nationals last year. As a result, it is likely that we will be moving to a larger venue in 2015 to accommodate the ever-increasing number of top teams desiring to compete for the title of “Beast of the Southeast”.
There will be no coaches meeting. In lieu thereof, we ask that coaches download and review the coaches packet – beast – 2014 prior to their arrival in Atlanta.
Importantly, all of the teams 15 and older compete under one roof–Suwanee Sports Academy–enabling college coaches to scout the best prospective student-athletes from the Southeast in a time-efficient, enjoyable manner. That’s one reason that the tournament traditionally attracts about 100 college coaches–the vast majority of whom are from the Southeast.
12′s – 14′s compete at Southern Volleyball Center.
Admission is $5/day; children under 10 are admitted for free.
The Schedule will be posted on advancedeventsystems.com not later than the Monday prior to the tournament. Wave/venue assignments are tentatively as follows:
- 16 and 18 Open will play in the a.m. wave at SSA
- 15 and 17 Open will play in the p.m. wave at SSA
- 14 Open will play two pools in the a.m. wave at SVC, with one pool being played in the p.m. wave
- 13 Open will play in the p.m. wave at SVC
- 12 Power will play a six-team-pool wave in the a.m. on Saturday, spilling over into Sunday at SVC
This year, 2014, we are offering another upgrade to ensure that your participation in the event goes smoothly. We’re partnering with GroupHousing as the official Hospitality Service for the Tournament.
While we have no stay-to-play policy at this tournament, all teams who need accommodations are strongly encouraged to book hotel reservations through GroupHousing. And there’s no reason not to use the service, as GroupHousing guarantees the lowest rate available for all teams. GroupHousing will make this process efficient and friendly for you, while providing exceptional hotel accommodations for all teams. Most hotels will offer a breakfast, kid friendly services, budget-conscious rates, and amenities to enhance your stay. Each hotel is strategically located just minutes from the tournament venues.
Feel free also to contact GroupHousing at 888-290-3210 if you prefer to book your hotel via telephone.
In lieu of a stay-to-play requirement, we will ask that all teams traveling from out of town complete the Beast hotel form 2014 and turn it in to the tournament desk when you check in on Saturday morning:
Recruiting/Highlight Video Services will be provided by American Sports Memories, with a significant discount for Beast participants. You will want to pre-register for these services to ensure videographer availability. For more information about the discount code, click Beast Recruiting Videos, or feel free to go straight to ASM’s website.
Food Tables are allowed at both venues. However, space is tight and we will furnish the tables. You will not be able to purchase food at the venue, but there is a wide variety of restaurant/take-out options near each location.
There is no need to schlepp volleyballs to Beast. We will supply volleyballs for all participants. Indeed, we will not allow you to bring volleyballs into either of the venues, and we ask that you not take the volleyballs we provide outside the premises.
