Beast of the Southeast — February 21 – 22, 2015

Significant changes are in the offing in this, the tournament’s seventh year.  A USAV Ranking tournament, invitations are automatically earned by a team’s qualifying for the USAV National Championship Tournament the previous year.  For example, A5′s 13-1 team qualified for Nationals in 2013, so A5′s 14-1 team was invited to Beast in 2014.

Consequently, Beast has been able to attract most of the best teams from throughout the Southeast–from Louisiana, Memphis, D.C., Raleigh, Miami and every significant market in between.  We even get a few carpetbaggers–teams from top clubs from the North–even Canada–who want to experience open level competition outside their immediate geographic area.

2014 was the first year that we had to turn away teams that qualified for USAV Nationals the previous year, and virtually every age group had a wait list of 6 – 8 very competitive teams.  As a result, we will be moving to a larger venue in 2015 to accommodate the ever-increasing number of top teams desiring to compete for the title of “Beast of the Southeast”.  In 2015 the tournament will be held at the Georgia International Conference Center, connected to Atlanta’s airport.  This move will eliminate the need for out-of-town teams to rent vans and cars, and will likewise knock an hour or more off each leg of the trip.

There will be no coaches meeting.  In lieu thereof, we ask that coaches download and review the coaches packet prior to their arrival in Atlanta.

Importantly, all of the teams will compete under one roof, enabling college coaches to scout the best prospective student-athletes from the Southeast in a time-efficient, enjoyable manner.  That’s one reason that the tournament traditionally attracts about 100 college coaches–the vast majority of whom are from the Southeast.

Registration — will open on AES on October 15, 2015.  Note that since this is an invitational tournament, we will register your team.  You’ll have to do everything beyond that (send in your registration fee, post rosters, etc.)

Cost — $465/team

Location — Georgia International Convention Center, attached to Atlanta’s airport.

Schedule/Waves — Will be posted on the Monday prior to the tournament.

Coaches Meeting – There will be no coaches meeting at this tournament.  Rather, we will give coaches one coaches packet per team upon check-in.  This packet will contain a detailed description of each division’s format, along with information that will be of use for all tournament participants and spectators.

Winners Invited to Beast — Winners of this tournament receive a Champion’s Exemption–an automatic invitation to the 2016 Beast of the Southeast.

Admission – Spectators will be charged $5/day for admittance to the tournament.  Players, coaches, college coaches and children under 10 will be admitted without cost.

Hotel Accommodations
We are in the process of negotiating favorable rates with nearby hotels and will post that information as it becomes available.

While we have no stay-to-play policy at this tournament, all teams who need accommodations are strongly encouraged to book hotel reservations through our housing bureau.  Most hotels will offer a breakfast, kid friendly services, budget-conscious rates, and amenities to enhance your stay. Each hotel is strategically located just minutes from the tournament venues.

Food Tables

Sorry, but GICC does not allow food tables.  A wide variety of food is available in the facility, though.

Recruiting/Highlight Video Services will be provided by American Sports Memories, with a significant discount for Beast participants.  You will want to pre-register for these services to ensure videographer availability.  For more information about the discount code, click Beast Recruiting Videos, or feel free to go straight to ASM’s website.

There is no need to schlepp volleyballs to Beast.  We will supply volleyballs for all participants.  Indeed, we will not allow you to bring volleyballs into the venue, and we ask that you not take the volleyballs we provide outside the premises.

  1. Erica Bunch says:

My name is Erica Bunch, and I brought my Prostyle 17 Premiers to your Beast tournament in 2012. My 17′s did qualify for the USAV National Tournament in 2012. I would like to bring my 18′s back to your 2013 tournament. In addition, I am interested in bringing my top 13′s and 15′s teams to your 2013 Beast of the SE tournament. Although these teams did not qualify for nationals, they did finish in the top 20 in the Florida Region. Please keep these teams on your list if your tournament does not fill up. You can contact me at this email address or my phone number at 850-508-5676.

    Thank you,
    Erica Bunch

Thanks for reaching out, Erica–you are ahead of the game for sure.

Your 18′s are in for sure and we will put your 13′s and 15′s atop the wait list for any at-large slots. Should be able to identify those teams in a couple of months.

Check your email in a week or so for your formal invitation and additional information. We look forward to seeing you again at the Beast of the Southeast!

  2. Theresa says:

When is the deadline for room blocks going to be this year.

    • michael says:

Theresa, I don’t understand your question. We have reserved blocks of rooms and the housing bureau is live if you want to make reservations now.

(There is no obligation to use the Housing Bureau if you don’t want to; it is simply provided as a convenience for tournament participants.)

  3. Our 18′s team is interested in participating in Beast of the Southeast 2013. We would like to be considered for this field. Is there anything we have to submit to get an invitation to participate? Last season, we had a lot of success placing 9th at AAUs and 9th at Colorado Crossroads. If you need more information, please contact me at the above email address and I can send you all of our results from last season. Thanks!

    • michael says:

Thanks for the inquiry, Maria; your question is timely.

Our goal at Beast is to assemble the most highly competitive field that we can attract, guaranteeing all participants a minimum of five matches–hopefully all against highly competitive teams–avoiding the blow-outs during pool play that seem to plague most tournaments.

We automatically invite those teams that qualified for USAV Nationals last season. The deadline for acceptance of those invitations is upon us, and we will begin to invite teams on an at-large basis next week. Your team will be considered in that process and we will contact you off line to learn more.
