The 5th annual Beast of the Southeast is in the Books. Most of those who attended told us that it was the best Beast yet, with stiffer competition than ever before. Many traveled long distances to compete in the event, and those, especially, we thank for making the tournament better by your presence.
Results of the 2013 Beast of the Southeast are available here. A list of college coaches who signed in with us is available on the sub-page to this webpage, as are pictures of each division champion and their respective MVB’s (Most Valuable Beasts).
As we enter the tournament’s 6th year, it is clear that the 2014 rendition of Beast will be more competitive still. A USAV Ranking tournament, invitations are automatically earned by a team’s qualifying for the USAV National Championship Tournament the previous year. For example, A5′s 13-1 team qualified for Nationals in 2013, so A5′s 14-1 team will be invited to Beast in 2014.
Consequently, Beast has been able to attract most of the best teams from throughout the Southeast–from Louisiana, Memphis, D.C., Raleigh, Miami and every significant market in between. We even get a few carpetbaggers–teams from top clubs from the North–even Canada–who want to experience open level competition outside their immediate geographic area. As of mid-October the tournament is totally full, but for one spot in the U12 division. This is the first year that we have had to turn away teams that qualified for USAV Nationals last year. As a result, it is likely that we will be moving to a larger venue in 2015 to accommodate the ever-increasing number of top teams desiring to compete for the title of “Beast of the Southeast”.
Importantly, all of the teams 15 and older compete under one roof–Suwanee Sports Academy–enabling college coaches to scout the best prospective student-athletes from the Southeast in a time-efficient, enjoyable manner. That’s one reason that the tournament traditionally attracts about 100 college coaches–the vast majority of whom are from the Southeast.
12′s – 14′s compete at Southern Volleyball Center.
The cost of this tournament is $425. Given that Beast is an invitational, we will enter invited/accepted teams on Advanced Event Systems, and teams will have to take it from there (entering of rosters; payment of registration fee, etc.). This will all be in place by October 15th.
This year, 2014, we are offering another upgrade to ensure that your participation in the event goes smoothly. We’re partnering with GroupHousing as the official Hospitality Service for the Tournament.
While we have no stay-to-play policy at this tournament, all teams who need accommodations are strongly encouraged to book hotel reservations through GroupHousing. And there’s no reason not to use the service, as GroupHousing guarantees the lowest rate available for all teams. GroupHousing will make this process efficient and friendly for you, while providing exceptional hotel accommodations for all teams. Most hotels will offer a breakfast, kid friendly services, budget-conscious rates, and amenities to enhance your stay. Each hotel is strategically located just minutes from the tournament venues.
Feel free also to contact GroupHousing at 888-290-3210 if you prefer to book your hotel via telephone.
In lieu of a stay-to-play requirement, we will ask that all teams traveling from out of town complete the Housing form for team check-in and turn it in to the tournament desk when you check in on Saturday morning:
If you do not find the information you need on this page please feel free to contact Kurt Matthews at email@example.com and we can help point you in the right direction.
Food Tables are allowed at both venues. However, space is tight and we will furnish the tables. You will not be able to purchase food at the venue, but there is a wide variety of restaurant/take-out options near each location.
There is no need to schlepp volleyballs to Beast. We will supply volleyballs for all participants. Indeed, we will not allow you to bring volleyballs into either of the venues, and we ask that you not take the volleyballs we provide outside the premises.
