Sweet Tea Showdown – Nashville – June 1 – 2, 2019

We have been struggling for years to find the best answer to fill the competitive void between the Qualifier Season and the AAU/USAV National Championship Tournaments.  We created the Sweet Tea Showdown in response to this conundrum, introducing it for the first time in 2018, and we’ll be offering it again in 2019 in response to some of the comments we received:

  • “Hands down the best preparation for Nationals we have ever had”
  • “Loved the power pool format.  We were challenged in each of the six matches we played.
  • “Most competitive tournament ever held in Nashville”

Three of the Nation’s Volleyball Powerhouses — Atlanta-based A5, Raleigh-based Triangle, and Alliance VBC of Nashville have joined forces to anchor an Open-caliber tournament in Nashville the weekend following Memorial Day.  All of the host clubs’ top teams will be in attendance.  The tournament utilizes a Power Pool format to minimize or eliminate blow-out matches.  We expect each entrant to play a minimum of six matches —  four on Saturday and two or more on Sunday, though it is possible that if a team earns a bye in bracket play and then loses their first match, they will play only five matches.  Our sole goal in hosting this event is to attract top, National-level competition to fill the lengthy void in most teams’ schedules, enabling all of us to roll into AAU and/or USAV Nationals in top form.

Insurance/Sanction — inasmuch as the tournament spans across  USAV/JVA/AAU boundaries, we purchase our own event insurance.  Teams competing under any of those banners are welcome.

Registration — will open 10/1/19

Cost — $495/team

Location — Franklin Field House and the Williamson County Ag Expo Park, enabling the tournament to double in size from its 2018 beginnings.

Waves Will Be Announced:  as soon as the field is sufficiently defined.

Schedule — will be posted on advancedeventsystems.com not later than the Tuesday prior to the event.

Coaches Meeting – There will be no coaches meeting at this tournament.  Rather, we welcome you to upload and review this embedded coaches packet – sweet tea – 2018, which has been sent to all participating Club Directors through AES.  We’ll also have them on hand to give to coaches upon check-in.  This packet contains a detailed description of each division’s format, along with information that will be of use for all tournament participants and spectators.

Admission Spectators–including “chaperones”–will be charged $10/day ($15/weekend) for admittance to the tournament.  Players, coaches and college coaches will be admitted without cost.
