Announcing the Second Annual SVC Middle School Feeder Program
Southern Volleyball Center (“SVC”) and Volleyperformance (“VP”) served as the “outsource solution” to eight Middle School Volleyball Feeder Programs in 2012 and we’re doing it again in 2013.
On September 12th, participants shared the gym with the University of Central Florida volleyball team, who was practicing in preparation for a tournament in Atlanta. The college athletes–several of whom are from Atlanta–then spent some Quality Time with our middle schoolers before heading to their hotel. Photos of that session are available here.
Following are the details:
Sixth through Eighth-graders who will be feeding into one of the participating high schools. Though we expect the preponderance of attendees to be girls, boys are welcome.
An introductory, no-cut program to teach middle school children the fundamentals of volleyball. All skills and positions will be taught by Volleyperformance coaches—coaches chosen specifically for their experience in working with this age group. Further information about Volleyperformance is available at volleyperformance.com.
Though multiple high schools will be participating in the program, athletes will be teamed with others who will be attending the same High School to the extent possible. As the season progresses, multiple teams representing each High School will be formed and competition will be introduced in the form of scrimmages, culminating with a season-ending tournament.
Participants will train twice a week–on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., commencing the week on August 20th. We will open our doors on the 20th at 5 p.m., so please feel free to arrive early and get the check-in behind you so that we can commence training promptly at 6:00.
Southern Volleyball Center, a five-court, state-of-the-art, volleyball-only training and tournament venue located on the Roswell/Alpharetta border. Come in your sneakers and kneepads if you have them. Kneepads and spandex will be available for purchase at the pro shop if you need either.
$195 per participant, which includes all training, a camp t-shirt, and a donation of $20 to the respective High School Volleyball Booster Club.
Registration is open and it has been brisk, with several new athletes registering each day. That said, we have plenty of room and won’t have to turn anyone away.
If you’ve not registered by August 17th, please a) notify us via email of your daughter’s intent to participate (so that we can staff the event with the proper number of coaches; and b) bring your paperwork and payment with you to the first session on Tuesday, 8/20.
Last year many families didn’t hear about the program until after it had already started. Certainly it is acceptable to join the program one or even two weeks after it has started. Just show up on a Tuesday or Thursday evening and we’ll get the paperwork squared away.
Please download the appropriate form(s), complete them, and return them to the address indicated thereon.
