Question: how does a tiny little market like Louisville consistently produce National Championship Caliber High School and Club Teams?
Answer: They start ’em young
Southern Volleyball Center is doing what it can to introduce the sport to boys and girls at an early age so that those with aptitude and desire will be equipped to compete on the Nation’s biggest stages in high school and college.
Please take a look at the pages following to peruse the offerings available for elementary and middle school athletes. …..and if you have ideas, questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.
When will I be able to register my daughter for your middle school program?
Registration is live as of 7/11
where do I get the Gwinnett forms?
Thanks for the question. Gwinnett forms are now downloadable from the website. I think they are identical to the GHSA forms already posted, but there is no way for you to have known that. Sorry for any confusion.
The first page of the Gwinnett forms asks for High School info, not middle school. My daughter is starting 8th grade.
Do I just put Norcross High School anyway?
I’d just put the name of her middle school. The registration form asks for both, so we will be able to cross-reference if necessary.
what time will practices start on Tuesday and Thursday? We are coming from Norcross area and school does not let out until 4:15. Thanks, Renee Reddic
What time will the training take place on Tues and Thurs evenings?
We will have two sessions each night–nominally two hours long each, though if necessary we can compress them slightly so as to work around the realities of traffic and bedtime. so think 5 – 7 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m., or 5:15 – 7:00 and 7:00 – 8:45. Though we won’t know for certain until signups are complete, we will try to rotate sessions such that each team has one early session and one late session per week.
hope that helps.
Will this program be only for those new to the game, or experienced players as well?
The program is specifically designed to benefit middle school players of all experience and skill levels. The training sessions will be constructed such that all athletes benefit–the VP coaches have a great deal of experience at this. As the end of the six-week session approaches, competition will be devised to pit teams of similar skill levels against one another.
We are happy to refund your money if it turns out that you can’t participate the program. We ask only for a week’s advance notice so that we can fill the slot you have vacated with a wait-listed athlete.
Is the physical required and who should I make the $195 check out to? Thanks for your help.
I am told that the physical form is required for all County students participating in school-related athletics. Since this feeder program is sanctioned by the High Schools, we have erred on the side of caution in asking the forms to be completed.
Checks should be made to Southern Volleyball Center.
Thank you.
Gosh, it wasn’t our intent to create stress or cause a fire drill with the forms. By all means submit your registration and all of the other documentation that you can, and follow up with the physical form after you have it–either by mailing it or simply bringing it with you the first day of the program.
Is there a program for Johns Creek?
My daughter would love to participate if eligible
No, Johns Creek is not participating in the Middle School Feeder program @ SVC. They may have their own; I don’t know.
Got a couple of options for you, though. Check out A5’s Fall Youth Clinic, starting this Monday (7/30) by going to http://www.a5vball.com/?page_id=2534. Alternatively–or perhaps in addition to–we will be happy to put your daughter on Chattahoochee’s feeder team presuming there’s room.
My daughter’s first choice would be to be on the Chattahooochee feeder team. How do I know if there is still room? I would have to register for the A-5 training session by tomorrow if there isn’t room on the Chattahoochee team.
Is there a number where I can talk to someone? I have called and left a voice mail at the number on the site but have not received a call back. Thanks
There’s plenty of room right now, Heidi; I understand your dilemma. Go ahead and get your paperwork in and you will be good to go.
Some enterprising families are doing both the A5 camp and the Feeder Program. A5 starts three weeks prior to the Feeder Program starting, and ends the week after, so there’s only one week of overlap (in which there would be four sessions in the week).
Sorry you didn’t get a return call; I’ve retrieved everything from SVC’s box and didn’t get it. If you have further questions, try my cell – 404-936-6723.
Hi, can you please tell me if you have room left on Chattahoochee’s team. We are downloading paperwork now. Thanks
there’s plenty of room on all of the teams as of this writing.
My daughter has been playing for 5 years with Roswell Rec/Academy, she is a rising 6th grader…would love to get her into such a program especially since her middle school only offers competition for 7th and 8th graders. How can we get her middle school (Holcomb Bridge Middle) and high school (Centennial High) involved and represented?
Lori, I thought that Centennial had a feeder program. However, if it’s just for 7th and 8th graders, your 6th grader is welcome to participate in ours. We would assign your daughter to a contiguous program–Roswell, North Springs or Chattahoochee. Give us your preference with your registration.
Since this is the first year that the Feeder Program has been offered, it’s hard to know how quickly it will fill. Registrations are flowing in daily, but I’m virtually certain there will still be room at any school if registrations are received by the first week of August. My guess is that we will be slammed with registrations in mid-August, when school starts and families are more focused on fall offerings, so I would certainly suggest that you beat THAT rush.
got it; you’re good to go.
Is this limited to girls within the “feeder schools”? My daughter is a 7th grader and attends Shiloh MS (a GCPS school like Norcross), but Shiloh is not a feeder school.
Any consideration??
Marlene
It’s really intended for girls who will be feeding into one of the participating schools, Marlene. That said, we want to give younger girls every opportunity to learn and fall in love with the sport. If the high school into which your daughter will feed a) has no middle school program; and b) is not participating in ours, we can add her to a participating program, space permitting. Alternatively, you should consider sending her to one of A5’s or GA5’s or Suwanee Sports Academy’s Youth Clinics, which focus more on individual skills training than the team dynamic.
For A5: http://www.a5vball.com/?page_id=2534
For SSA: http://ssasports.com/volleyball/programs
Information on GA5’s clinics is not yet posted.
yes, it looks like there’ll be room. We’ll place her with the Riverwood athletes. Just put your paperwork in the box just inside the entry door.
I am curious if you have any middle school girls forming a team for Lambert HS?
Thanks!
Yes, registration from Lambert-headed middle schoolers and indeed all participating high schools are now flowing in. The number per high school seems to be directly correlated with how diligent the particular high school is in getting the word out. We expect a flood of registrations the first week of school; those who act early are assuring themselves of a slot.
Looking for Vball training for a 4th grader, any ideas where to go? Thanks!
She’s probably a little young for our feeder program, Geri, but I’ve got a couple of ideas for you. First is A5’s Youth Training Session currently on-going. They started on 7/30; train on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.. That’s a perfect place for your 4th grader. Details are available at A5volleyball.com. ….and don’t worry that she missed the first 2 weeks. There are 4 weeks still to go and A5 will pro-rate the cost.
Another idea is one of the beginner’s sessions at Volleyperformance, the best volleyball training organization in the South. Check out volleyperformance.com, and choose a beginner’s session that works. If you don’t see one, not to worry. VP will in all likelihood start a weekly training regimen strictly designed for 3rd – 6th graders. Check back on their website within the next week.
We just heard about the middle school volleyball league from a friend, and are wondering what the specific schedule be this fall with regards to practices and matches? It might be posted and I just missed it. How many practices and matches, and what days and times are they? Also, is Bill Hoy coaching any of the teams? We have heard good things about him and hope our daughter has a chance to work with him.
Joe,
Teams will practice Tuesday and Thursday evenings for 2 hours each evening and the sessions run for six weeks. We will post the exact schedule (times) toward the end of the week, when numbers are close to being final. The program will transition from skills development to rules and team play to competition toward the end of the program.
Yes, Bill Hoey is indeed an outstanding coach; however, he will not be participating in this program. Your daughter will, however, have the benefit of learning from other fine coaches who specialize in this age group.
I gave you my registration form a few days ago on saturday or sunday, when will you get back to me if my daughter got on the team or not? 🙂
If we got your registration your daughter is in the program. This being our first year, we didn’t know what to expect in terms of registration. It now appears that everyone who wants to play will have that opportunity.
ok so i just showup with shorts and an exercise shirt on tuesday? Like what am i supposed to do? 🙂
Hi Maya,
Thanks for your question. As a result of it we’ve posted new instructions on the website. Wear tennis shoes, a t-shirt and shorts or spandex. Knee pads if you have them (if you don’t, you will probably want to buy a pair; we will endeavor to have some on sale in our (new) pro shop next week). Everything else will be furnished.
See you Tuesday.
I am going to sign my daughter up for the Lambert Team… Who do I make my check to? Should I just bring it on Tuesday or would you prefer I mail/drop it off?
Thanks
Check should be made payable to Southern Volleyball Center. It’d be best if you mailed the paperwork in at this point, thereby speeding up the process on Tuesday.
I have not received any information or confirmation that my paperwork and payment were received….do we just show up and hope for the best, or will we get an email?
If you’ve sent your registration in it has almost certainly been received. We won’t have to turn anyone away, so by all means show up prior to the 6 p.m. start time.
….and as indicated elsewhere, we are able to accept walk-ins.
is there still room left for new participants?
yes; walk-ins are welcome. please arrive 20 – 30 minutes early to get all of the paperwork squared away. (start time is 6 p.m.)
Is my child going to be put on a team to compete or will they just practice?
They will do both. Think of the 6-week program as 3 phases: 1. – work on skills and do a little drilling; 2. – fewer skills, more drills, review of rules and a little scrimmaging; 3. – team formation and matches vs. other teams.
